Indipendenza Studio
The concept underlying Indipendenza Studio is the desire to create an exchange between the Italian public and a number of international artists invited to present an exhibition project with the opportunity to stay and work in the apartment adjacent to the exhibition space. “Indipendenza” is the tension that characterises this new project and the square that hosts it in the historic “Macao” area of Rome, which has been popular with generations of artists – both residents and just passing through – since the 19th century.
The main hallmark of the rooms was the striking late-nineteenth-century decoration, which we decided to leave unchanged, complete with the flaws and imperfections due to the passage of time. This contrasts with the absolute white of the walls, which provides a neutral backdrop for displaying the works.
